Birthday Policy
Morningside Elementary School recognizes that birthdays are a special day for our students. We must also ensure that parties and celebrations do not disrupt the instructional day or interfere with the health and safety of all of all students. Birthdays occurring on weekends are recognized on the morning announcements the following Monday. Summer birthdays are recognized before the end of the school year.

- How to celebrate your child's birthday at MES:
- You are welcome to come to have lunch with your child and to bring your own child (only) a special treat or special lunch.
- You are welcome to send in a low cost, non-food treat such as stickers, birthday pencils, tiny fidgets, (no toy weapons of any kind!), etc…
- We do not celebrate in school with the following:
- Balloons
- Sweets (cupcakes, cake, ice cream, etc.)
- ***We kindly ask that you not ask teachers or staff to make an exception for your child. Making an exception for one child means we must make an exception for all, and that defeats the purpose of the policy. Teachers are also not allowed to distribute private party invitations for students.***
- Reminder: Please do not send birthday party invitations to school.
- Birthday Book Club (BBC) is a great way to recognize your child’s birthday and help our Media Center continue to build its collection. Here's how it works:
- When your child’s birthday month arrives, he/she will be invited to attend the BBC celebration and will select a new book from the BBC collection to donate to the Media Center.
- Your child will be the first person to check out the book.
- We will place a bookplate in the book honoring your child.
- August and September birthdays will be celebrated in September.
- June and July birthdays will be celebrated on the 1/2 birthdays.
- May birthdays will be celebrated in April.
- If you are interested, please complete the form below and return it with your $20 donation to Prissy Stewart at the Primary Campus Media Center.

- On field trip days send your kindergartner to school in any MES shirt and sneakers.
- Please also pack & label a drink and a sack lunch that is completely disposable (brown paper/ziploc bags) OR order a sack lunch ahead of time. You will be notified when it is time to order. School provided sack lunches are typically a turkey sandwich, a piece of fruit, graham crackers, and a chocolate milk. If your child needs a vegetarian sack lunch (cheese sandwich) you must let me know ahead of time.
- We will have chaperone sign ups for all field trips once dates have been finalized. Chaperones are responsible for your own transportation and admission to field trips. Most places do not charge, but they have the right to.
